Spot Sensor

why is the french SPOT sensor superior to the U.S. landsat thematic mapper?
what are a few ways in which it is better.
I presume this is specifically spot 5 vs. Landsat 7.
I don’t think this is a valid comparison since they have different kinds of missions…
For instance:
Spot 5 has a higher resolution than Landsat, but Landsat covers a much wider swath (185 km, vs 60km for SPOT 5) so it can map out larger areas faster for larger scale geographical studies. Landsat has infrared capability, Spot has visible light capability in three color bands, a pan band and one shortwave IR Band. In addition to those bands Landsat has a Near IR band, an additional SWIR band and a LWIR band; this will make Landsat more useful for vegetation stress studies, for instance. Landsat has a revisit time of 16 days, Spot has a revist of 26 days. Spot can do stereo imaging, Landsat can’t.
I suspect your professor is looking for you to parrot back some advantages he outlined. If you point out that the mission designs are somewhat different and some ways in which Landsat is superior, you might get bonus points.
